A comparative study of the application of the method of least-squares in the potentiometric determination of protonation constants.

1982

Methods of simple and multiple linear regression applied to the potentiometric determination of protonation constants of diprotic and triprotic acids are studied critically. The best way of fitting the data, according to the order of magnitude of the constants, is established. The conclusions are checked by calculating the protonation constants of succinic and citric acids.

Acid–base behaviour and binding to double stranded DNA/RNA of benzo[g]phthalazine-based ligands

2019

The affinity and the binding mode of two benzo[g]phthalazine compounds, functionalized with one or two 2-(imidazole-4-yl)-ethylamine groups, to DNA and RNA models have been evaluated by means of UV-Vis, fluorescence and circular dichroism (CD) spectroscopies in combination with viscometry and molecular dynamics. Both organic molecules bind strongly to all nucleic acid models via the intercalation mode in the duplex structure, especially compound 1. Intriguingly, 1 exhibits different emission responses depending on the base composition of duplex DNA/RNAs, which points out the possibility of using it as a base selective nucleic acid probe. Moreover, the acid-base behaviour of both compounds h…

A solution study of complex formation between iron(III) and oxalate in dimethylsulphoxide

1991

The complex formation between iron(III) and oxalic acid (ethanedioic acid, H2ox) has been studied by potentiometry in dimethylsulphoxide (dmso) solution. H2ox behaves as a weak diprotic acid in such a solvent, with overall association constants: log βj1=8.551(3) and log βj2=14.242(3) at 25°C and 0.1 Mn-Bu4NClO4. A reliable set of overall stability constants for the iron(III)-oxalato complexes, log β11=13.16(4), log β12=23.66(4) and log β13=30.75(4), have been obtained for the first time under identical conditions. The electrochemical behaviour of such complexes was studied in dmso at a platinum electrode. The coordination ability of oxalate towards iron(III) in dmso and water media is compa…

Tuning the Electrochemistry of Free-Base Porphyrins in Acidic Nonaqueous Media: Influence of Solvent, Supporting Electrolyte, and Ring Substituents

2016

International audience; A detailed study of reduction potentials, electroreduction mechanisms and acid-base chemistry was carried out on two series of free-base porphyrins in nonaqueous media. The first series is represented by four-pyrrole substituted tetraphenylporphyrin (TPP) derivatives, two of which are planar and two of which are nonplanar in their non-protonated form. The second comprises porphyrins with 0-4 meso-phenyl groups on the macrocycle. Equilibrium constants for conversion of each neutral porphyrin to its diprotic [H4P] 2+ form were determined and the electrochemistry was then elucidated as a function of: (i) type of nonaqueous solvent, (ii) anion of supporting electrolyte, …
